If you were hoping to get an NES Classic soon, I’ve got some bad news for you. The system is being discontinued at the end of this month, with the last shipment already going out to retailers.

The news comes from Nintendo of America, who confirmed with IGN that the system is on its way out. In a statement, which you can check out below, a Nintendo representative explained that the NES Classic wasn’t meant to be a long term product, as well as apologizing for the low supply.

Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

On one hand, I get that it wasn’t meant to be a permanent fixture, but on the other hand, it still sucks that the device is being discounted. Hopefully this last shipment has more available for people to buy, because if the don’t, scalpers are going to have a field day with this. Assuming they aren’t already.
