So, apparently Miranda Otto made a big splash on TV last year playing a double agent on Homeland. Now it seems she’ll being joining the progenitor of contemporary intrigue thrillers as she was just cast on 24: Legacy. Although not quite the progenitor, because FOX is rebooting 24 with 24: Legacy with all new characters.
Miranda Otto will play Rebecca Ingram a former head of CTU who will get called back into the game when an inevitable new domestic terror threat emerges. Even though she’ll always be Eowyn in the hearts of many geeks. She’ll star alongside the new protagonist Eric Carter played Corey Hawkins.
Homeland executive producer Howard Gordon undoubtedly favored Otto for 24: Legacy since he’s also EPing the reboot and EPed the original 24.
Previous franchise icon Keifer Sutherland is not creatively involved at all at this time. After the one off series 24: Live Another Day, several plans had been rumored to continue the series with Jack Bauer but none have materialized. The two new cast members are pretty exciting, though.
As real world terrorism becomes more and more prevalent in current events, one has to wonder how 24: Legacy will handle depicting such topical themes. No expected premiere date yet.
