Roland Emmerich’s has shared some details about the next Independence Day movie. Nothing crazy, but It does give us a little more information about the film. Emmerich shared that “Independence Day Forever” will take place around 20 years after the first film. The first wave of aliens that attacked earth have sent a distress signal that requests reinforcements to attack the planet. Emmerich explains that “they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years. It will be interesting to see how this movie will take place. “Independence Day Forever” is reported to be set in two parts.

Emmerich also stated that, with the alien attack in the past, he’s now exploring a post-ID4 world that parallels our own. “It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history. Humans have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.” These future movies really sound to be filled with all the alien action one could ask for.
