MGM and GK Partner up to Produce “Tomb Raider” Movie
MGM has recently acquired the feature film rights to “Tomb Raider” and will develop a new movie based off of the video game’s plot and characters, in partnership with GK Films. The news was announced by Gary Barber, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MGM and Graham King, founder of GK Films.

Barber had this to say about the partnership, “Graham is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise. We look forward to developing more projects together in the future.”
King had this to say, “I am thrilled to partner with Gary and his MGM team on rebooting this successful “Tomb Raider” film franchise. The enthusiasm over the recent game release is very encouraging and we can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.”

In the recently-released “Tomb Raider” reboot game, Lara is portrayed as a younger, more-edgy heroine than in the previous series. The movie reboot will likely follow this lead, which will be a departure from Angelina Jolie’s version of Lara. The two previous films – “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001) and “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life” (2003) – grossed a combined $430 million-plus worldwide.
