SDCC 2015: Ennio Morricone to Score Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’
Quentin Tarantino and the Weinstein Co. brought the cast of the upcoming Western The Hateful Eight to San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall on Saturday. During the panel, Tarantino revealed that the movie will be scored by legendary composer Ennio Morricone.
At 86 years old, Morricone has a slew of impressive credits to his name, and is well known for his iconic scores from some of the most popular spaghetti westerns of the 1960s and ’70s. His resume includes classics such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistful of Dollars and My Name is Nobody. Hateful Eight will be Morricone’s first western score in 40 years.
The film has not been without its setbacks. After the Hateful Eight script was leaked, Tarantino threatened to to shelve the project altogether. To put any doubts to rest, the Comic-Con presentation (complete with an announcement by Samuel L. Jackson) revealed that that the film will launch with a limited road show that will kick off on Christmas Day — complete with commemorative programs, and projected in 70 mm. Tarantino also screened a 7-minute cut from the film, and revealed a new poster (via Twitter).
The Hateful Eight stars Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern and Michael Madsen, and opens nationwide on January 8.
