Minecraft is poised to become the next in a long line of video game to film adaptions. According to Deadline, Warner Brothers has acquired the movie rights, with plans to bring the popular open world adventure game to the big screen.
A Minecraft movie is certainly no big surprise after the huge success of The Lego Movie. There are currently over 100 million users playing the original Minecraft pc game, which has expanded to virtually every gaming platform, including mobile devices – not to mention a healthy collection of Hot Topic swag.
The question is, what form will this big screen adaptation take? Will it be animated or live action? The success of the movie would largely depend on the filmmakers’ ability to translate Minecraft gameplay into a compelling storyline for film audiences, so it will be interesting to see how this project pans out.
Is a Minecraft movie just a bad idea, or are you excited to see it hit theaters? Sound off in the comments below.
