Tomb Raider is one of those timeless games that regardless how old you are or how old the game is, there are reasons to play it and play it and play it. It’s one of the most like game franchises of all time and holds a place in the hearts of many. The story of Tomb Raider has seen many adaptations from movies with Angie taking on the role of Lara Croft, comic books and various video game renditions.

For cosplayers, it’s the chance to step inside the shoes of a strong female protagonist, one of the most loved female protagonists in gaming history, and be Lara Croft.  Let’s start with a little overview, shall we?

When Lara was young she travelled with her parents on many of their archaeological expeditions and uncovered mysteries that would later help her shape the woman she was becoming. It was on one of these expeditions where her father vanished and was presumed dead. Lara decided one thing – she wanted to earn her own way and would apply to the University College of London. This decision required her to pay her tuition and rent by working multiple jobs. Although this was a tougher choice, it helped Lara become more grounded, down to earth and level headed than she might otherwise have been.

When Lara was 21 years old, she set out on her first expedition aboard the ship Endurance to find the lost Japanese kingdom of Yamatai, home to the legendary shaman queen Himiko, dubbed the “Sun Queen”, and said to hold mystical power. Her travelling companions included the likes of Conrad Roth, Joslin Reyes, Alex Weiss, Jonah Maiava, Grim Grimaldi, Samantha Nishimura, and Dr. James Whitman. By Lara’s suggestion, and against Whitman’s advice, the group began searching in the Dragon’s Triangle, an area infamous for missing ships and violent storms.

In the couple of years I’ve been cosplaying, I’ve seen many amazing Lara Croft cosplays. From my dear friend Eve Beauregard, to Wind of the Stars, Megan Marie’s Steampunk Lara, and so on. They are just a few to name. Joining them is Katsurag, a Finnish cosplayer in Sweden who has crafted some amazing cosplays such as Poison Ivy, Espeon, Assassin’s Creed, Leona from League of Legends and her fantastically made Lara Croft cosplay from the masterpiece, Tomb Raider. There is so much to love about this cosplay and how accurate everything is.
