The days of 90’s arcade era was an interesting and evolving scene. You had movies like Lawnmower man making us kids back then believe that someday we would go inside the gaming world. Yet here we are 20 years later and it obviously didn’t happen… yet. However I do remember the first time my eyes came across Virtua Fighter 2 and truly thought we were working our way towards the future. Sega’s Model 2 arcade board brought us into a more 3D world and it truly evolved the arcade scene. You were seeing Sega’s games do things that we never thought were possible, especially when we would go home to our stack of 2D games.

Sega has announced today that they will be launching five classic arcade titles that used the Model 2 arcade board tech, all bundled together in their new Model 2 Collection. Those titles are Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic The Fighters, Virtua Striker and Cyber Troopers Virtual On. The Collection will launch later this year on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 with online support included. The price for these classic arcade hits is set for Japan at $10.00 (800 MS Points) and I’m sure it will be the same price when it launches over here in North America.

This is worth it just for Virtual On… I had that for Sega Saturn years ago and even played it down at the local Nickel Arcade. Sure the joysticks were broken, but I was driving a giant robot!
