President Snow has an important message for the Capital and the Districts of Panem, but so does District 13. In the latest pseudo trailer for the first part film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s worldwide best seller, Mockingjay, the President stands with Hunger Games victors Peeta Mellark and Johanna Mason to present a message of unity and solidarity for all Panem.
But the message is garbled by static until finally, Jeffrey Wright as Beetee flickers through, with an important message from District 13, “The Mockingjay Lives.”
These 2 (so far) Panem Addresses featuring the in-character cast of the film is pretty brilliant way of tying the film’s themes of propaganda and media manipulation directly to the film’s marketing campaign. It’s not the first time that a piece of in universe media has been released to the real world, but it’s particularly resonant for Hunger Games fans.
Disillusioned and dissatisfied Panem citizens will be able to join Katniss Everdeen on her rebellious crusade once again when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 debuts in theaters November 21st, 2014. And be sure to watch the address for yourself below.
