The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Casting News

The cast is starting to fill out for Catching Fire, the second film in the Hunger Games series, which is based on Suzanne Collins’ popular books of the same name.

Over the past weeks, Lionsgate has been slowly releasing the names of actors who have signed on for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The most recent addition, E. Robert Mitchell (S.W.A.T.), will play the role of Chaff.  Mitchell joins a cast that already includes Alan Ritchson (Smallville) as Gloss, Bruno Gunn (Bad Teacher) as Brutus, Meta Golding (Surrogates) as Enobaria, Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) as Johanna Mason, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee.

Jennifer Lawrence will return in the lead role of Katniss Everdeen, the bow-and-arrow-wielding “girl on fire”. Liam Hemsworth will be back as her hunting buddy, Gale. Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as Peeta, the lovestruck baker’s son.

Francis Lawrence will direct the remaining films in the four-movie series (the third book, Mockingjay, will be split into two films). Lawrence replaces Gary Ross, who directed The Hunger Games.

Catching Fire follows Katniss and Peeta as they grapple with unexpected consequences from their joint survival in the Hunger Games arena. That includes: relationship complications between Katniss and Gale, underground rebellion forces in Panem rallying around Katniss and Peeta, hoping to bring about the downfall of the Capitol – and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) initiating even harsher security measures, so as to quell the unruly lower-class masses.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated for release on November. 22, 2013
