Square Enix shut down Final Fantasy XIV on Sunday as part of a recently announced plan to remake the MMO. While the game had long been criticized for being an unpolished product, there was nothing unpolished about the cinematic that ended Final Fantasy XIV. The cut scene, titled ‘End of an era’, showed the conclusion of the Seventh Umbral Era event. The Eorzean Alliance and the Garlean Empire clashed on the battlefield as a massive meteor called Dalamud crashed into the world of Hydaelyn. All of this happened while music composed by longtime series fixture Nobuo Uematsu played.

If you put a group of hardcore Final Fantasy fans in a room, there's a really solid chance an argument's going to erupt about just which title is actually 'the best'. Square Enix opting to put magitek armor in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in no way, shape or form decides the argument in the favor of Final Fantasy VI, but it's worth pointing out that there's been no mention of materia in the upcoming MMO at this point.

The latest trailer for the 2.3 content patch for the stellar Square-Enix MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn showcases a slew of the new content headed to the game in early July. The latest run of new content, 2.3 bridges the gap between this and the next big expansion set to come out later this year. While that patch brings new classes and more, this patch brings many new dungeons and gameplay modes for players new and old to experience and enjoy until the next major expansion patch.

Starting as a new player in the MMORPG genre is always very daunting; especially so when the game has been running for some time with a well-established community. In just a few short months Square Enix will be releasing its first expansion for Final Fantasy XIV named Heavensward, and hopes to bring in new players in the process. The issue some are finding however is how will they hold up against veteran players, and what class/job will ease them into the game without feeling pushed out against others.
