‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff to Air on Hulu in Exclusive Deal

Much to the chagrin of Netflix and Amazon, AMC has signed an exclusive deal with Hulu that includes all episodes of the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. The huge news was revealed during Hulu’s NewFront presentation in New York on Wednesday. The deal with AMC also gives Hulu exclusive SVOD rights to new and upcoming programming from AMC, IFC, BBC America, Sundance TV and WEtv. So, in other words, it’s a huge win for Hulu.

“FX and AMC are the most important contributors to the new golden age of television,” said Hulu programming chief Craig Erwich, referring to their deals with both networks. “Our competitors have some of their libraries, but we will have all of their future.” Them’s fightin’ words.

Fear the Walking Dead will be set in Los Angeles and follows Sean Cabrera (Cliff Curtis) as a teacher who shares a son with his his ex-wife. Kim Dickens (Sons of Anarchy) stars as a guidance counselor who works at Sean’s school and is seeing him romantically.

Hulu seems set to give Netflix and Amazon a run for their money with a recent slew of licensing agreements. They have already secured streaming rights for some of this season’s top shows, including Empire and CSI, and exclusive output deals with FX, TNT, TBS, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. Additionally, Hulu has landed exclusive streamings to all nine seasons of Seinfeld.

It may be time to renew that Hulu subscription!
