Payday 2 Gets New Update, Will Remove Microtransactions

A new update is coming to Payday 2 soon, but this is no ordinary update. Besides being the 100th update, this new update will change a lot about the game, including reworking the tech tree and removing the game’s controversial microtransactions.

In an update video for the game, which you can check out below, Overkill producer Almir Listo explained in detail what’s going on with the gaming going forward. For starters, Overkill now has the rights to the game back from publisher 505 games, who Overkill made a deal with to get Payday 2 released as well as getting the home console versions made. As such, the developer revealed that they are committed to making new content for the game for the next 18 months, starting with this new update that’s coming this Thursday. This update will remove microtransactions from the game, which was a point of contention for many players when it was first announced, as well as updating the skill tree, and giving players a special community grenade. Additionally, a few of the Payday 2 developers will be hosting an AMA over on the game’s Twitch channel this Friday from 4 PM-6PM Eastern time, so if you have an questions, be sure to tune in then.

Payday 2 is available now for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xbox One.
