We’re still four months away from the wildly anticipated first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Episode 7: The Force Awakens. But that doesn’t mean that the wheels aren’t yet turning on the next film in the sequel trilogy.
‘Star Wars: Episode 8′ Gets a Director and Release Date
The as-yet-untitled Star Wars Episode 8 will be directed by Rian Johnson and, according to TheWrap.com, several big name contenders for the female lead role have already emerged. They include Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”), Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) and “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” star Olivia Cooke. Several individuals involved in the casting process have also said that Johnson is still holding auditions. The perspective actresses will be reportedly be doing chemistry-reads with John Boyega this month.
Elsewhere on the Episode 8 grapevine, Benicio del Toro is reportedly nearing a deal to play the villain in the film. Rumors persist that Episode 8 will also introduce Han Solo’s daughter.
