Richard Linklater’s ‘Dazed and Confused’ Getting Spiritual Sequel

Dazed and Confused is a classic. That’s a hard fact to deny. Many people may call BS on making a sequel to such a prolific film, but fortunately Richard Linklater is going to helm it. During a recent reddit AMA with the director, Linklater hinted at an upcoming movie that would be a “spiritual successor” to Dazed.

He stated in the AMA that “It’s not the same characters, If ‘Dazed’ was my high school, this is my college. It’s about a weekend in college in that time period (the ’80s). It’s funny… I think it’s the funniest thing I ever wrote.”

This is pretty exciting news considering how successful Linklater’s Before series has become. The third entry, Before Midnight, is opening in limited release today.

He apparently is planning on going into production later this year. “I’m hoping to make (the sequel) this fall, actually”. The film will be “a college comedy. I feel like mixing it up with a big ensemble.”

This should be a fun new project for Linklater whose last film Bernie received quite a bit of critical praise. On a personal level, Linklater is a favorite director of mine and any new project that he heads is at least worth checking out.

Still no major news on his 13 year film project but hopefully some news of that will come down the wire this year. Check back regularly for updates!
