Rogue One

Mads Mikkelsen Won’t Play a Villain in Star Wars Rogue One

Shocker.

Mads Mikkelsen has made quite a name for himself in nerdom playing menacing, sophisticated bad guys. Undoubtedly, his most famous role is his portrayal of the cannibal serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter. But apparently, he’ll get to break that mold in the upcoming Star Wars Rogue One spinoff film directed by Gareth Edwards.

This comes through a couple of different layers of reporting. Mikkelsen interviewed with ekstrabladet.dk: and the interview was picked up and translated by starwars7news.com, via Google.

Q: On IMDB your name is listed just after Felicity Jones. It suggests that it is a great role. Is it a big role?

A: I have not actually noticed that. It is probably because the other might not have come on the list yet [smiles].

Q: But is it a big or a small role?

A: It is a very important role, as much I can say.

Q: Are you the bad guy?

A: No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more. I can also say that the movie will be shot in Iceland and England. And the filming will last for three months.

So, perhaps Mikkelsen will play a member of the rebel agents who band together to steal the plans to the Death Star? Star Wars Rogue One also stars Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed. We can expect it in theaters December 16th, 2016.
