During the 2012 Spike Video Game awards, a trailer was played for a game that featured a blindfolded man trying to break free from a hospital, painfully crawling his way out. This mysterious trailer did not say what game it was for, but many were almost certain that the trailer was for Metal Gear Solid 5. Well, it has been confirmed that this assumption is correct. The next game in the franchise will be Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, as confirmed by Hideo Kojima.

The newly released trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain starts off in a bright hospital room with doctors trying to resuscitate a man who we can see is wearing a FOX uniform. The man survives, but is knocked into a coma. It becomes obvious that this man is Big Boss. The scene ends and goes forward in time to a bloody Big Boss riding in a helicopter, shooting down foes. We then flash back to Big Boss’s attempt to escape the prison, barely able to move, crawling his way around with the help of a bandage-faced friend. Because of the large amount of pills that he was given in the hospital, Boss encounters supernatural hallucinations, and is unsure what is reality and what is purely his imagination. With fires and guns blazing, Big Boss escapes the hospital on horseback, hoping to find out what has happened to Force Operation X during the nine years that he was in a coma.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is being published by Konami and developed by Kojima Productions using a modified Fox Engine. Supported consoles and release date have yet to be confirmed, but we can expect more news to release in the near future.
