Rumors are a dangerous thing. They play on the wishes of our deepest heart of hearts and give us hope for things that probably never existed in the first place. In the world of instant information rumors can be a fun what-if story, but when they’re ultimately debunked it’s important to know when to call it a day. Over the past few months we’ve brought you rumors ranging from an HD remaster of God of War being in the works to a Zelda Netflix live-action series being on the table, which received further clarification this weekend.

While there is an HD Remaster of God of War III currently in development, when asked about a possible remaster for the first two games, Sony Santa Monica’s Aaron Kaufman quickly dispelled those rumors when responding to a fan question on the PlayStation Blog, stating that there were, “No plans for others in the franchise to bring over.” The HD remaster of God of War III is expected to drop July 14th on PlayStation 4, running at 1080p. A new entry into the franchise is also in development on the Sony platform.

Speaking to Time Magazine, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata spoke on the rumors of a Zelda live-action series for Netflix, stating “As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information.” While not an outright denial of the project being in the works, it does dispel some of the mystique surrounding the show, being described as “a family-friendly Game of Thrones,” or that the rumor originally published in the Wall Street Journal is simply completely false. Just goes to show that nothing should be taken with 100% authenticity unless it’s announced by Nintendo itself.
