With so many big name titles coming out to tie in with the release of the Playstation 4 at the end of the year, it is easy to overlook some of the smaller indie games that will also be making an appearance. Here is a run down of some of the ones that won’t be forgotten about on release day.

The first is a first-person horror title called Outlast. It is being developed by Red Barrels and was first announced as a PC title in October 2012. The game has taken inspiration from the stealth based gameplay found in games like Amnesia: Dark Descent. Studio co-founder Philippe Morin had this to say about Outlast, “The core of the game is pretty much like a stealth game, so you have to avoid enemies, hide from enemies and run away from enemies. But the action comes into play when you have to run from them, so this is where we are using our experience making games like Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed. To try and make the chases as exciting as possible”.

Another one of these upcoming titles is Mercenary Kings, which is a 2D co-op action game. It also includes platfroming aspects and an exciting crafting system. The game allows for up to four gamers playing locally. You play as King, who is the most powerful mercenary to walk the earth, and will complete missions to continue the story and gather items that will help you build your own weaponry.

Next is a strange concept, where the player controls an octopus posing as a human in a title called Octodad. The gameplay centres around you making a balance between keeping the charade going and completing day-to-day tasks. It truly does sound like a unique and enjoyable title.

Finally, there will be a side-scrolling world space adventure from development company 7 bit Games, who are also the creators of Skulls of the Shogun. The title will be called Galak-Z The Dimensional.
Hopefully these games will see some kind of success when the PS4 hits stores shelves at the end of the year.
