Indie developers FuturLab have just released a brand new gameplay trailer using early alpha footage to showcase the beautiful art style and insanely fast-paced gameplay of their upcoming shoot ‘em up-platformer hybrid, Velocity 2X. FuturLab Managing Director, James Marsden unveiled the trailer via the PlayStation Blog saying, “It’s starting to look the part, but there’s still a lot to do.” Adding, “The major thing left to do is improve the animation on the player character Lt. Kai Tana. We’re working on that right now.”

Despite only being a small studio, FuturLabs have pushed themselves beyond even their own wildest expectations and created something both visually and mechanically distinctive. “Artistically speaking, we wanted Velocity 2X to be the spiritual successor to Flashback (and indeed Another World), and also to create a level of atmosphere and production value that is rarely seen in 2D games.”

Responding to a comment posted under the video Marsden confirmed Velocity 2X will be, “Cross buy and cross save, [with] two trophy sets that unlock with cross save sync.” As of yet no release date has been confirmed, but Velocity 2X will be coming to both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita sometime in the not so distant future.
