Star Trek 3 May Release in 2016
Let’s talk Star Trek and The Mummy! Odd combination, don’t you think? I promise you it all ties together. Just recently, Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the Star Trek series, stated that the next Star Trek installment will begin shooting next year, in 2014, and J.J. Abrams will more than likely be directing. Though this seems like a peculiar schedule, because Abrams is also said to be filming Star Wars: Episode VII early next year, as well. But don’t worry, Abrams’ directing of the new Star Trek still remains to be seen, an is quite up in the air. Screenwriter/Producer, Roberto Orci, was surprised to hear from Quinto that Abrams was ‘more than likely’ directing the next Star Trek installment, because it was the first he had heard about it. “I’d love to have J.J. back. We’re still talking to Paramount about what the scheduling might be and if we can all do it together again, but yeah I read that too and I was like, ‘Whoa, does [Quinto] know something I don’t? I’d better call him.’ He owes me a call”, Orci adds.

It’s been stated that Paramount will release the third Star Trek in 2016, in honor of the franchise’s 50th anniversary, and Disney will release Star Trek: Episode VII in 2015. Orci is also involved in several other projects as well! One of those being a Mummy reboot. You mean that Brandon Fraser, action movie that released back in ’99? Yup, that one. Orci is said to be involved in the production aspect of the film, along with Alex Kurtzman, from Universal Pictures, and Lens Wiseman (who also did Total Recall) is said to be directing.

While the first Mummy movie, with Brandon Fraser, may have seemed a little cheesy at some points, Wiseman is hoping to make this reboot more ‘horror-focused and epic’ than the Fraser version. Orci makes a comment on the reboot, and says, “We just got a great script by Jon Spaihts, and we’re hoping to be shooting that in the new year. Our idea is to try and differentiate it from what’s come before because we love those movies and don’t want to just remake them, so how do you update it? So I think the idea is, yeah, do it now [in the present day].”

I hope you all are enjoying your Comic-Con! Keep checking back for more updates!
