Catherine is a video game that comes with mixed reviews. It was given a mostly good to high meta score by game critics, but also received negative criticism for being sexist. Part dating sim and part platforming game, Catherine is definitely something different if you’re looking to try something other than a RPG, MOBA, or FPS. The player plays as man named Vincent Brooks. Vincent is fearful about a lot of things: commitment, marriage, having children, settling down… You get the picture. If this sounds too much like real life to be intriguing, well, let me introduce you to Catherine.
Catherine is the (literally) too good to be true Magic Pixie Dreamgirl who slides into Vincent’s life after he spends an evening bemoaning his long time girlfriend Katherine (note the play on names). Catherine is everything Vincent wants in a women, and she seems to have no desire to commit. They spend the night together, though Vincent can’t actually remember hooking up with her come morning. While he can’t remember the mindblowing sex, Vincent does all too well the remember the nightmares that plague him every night that Catherine is in his life. Things escalate to where Catherine becomes increasingly possessive and aggressive. She was indeed too good to be true. And she’s also a demon succubus sent by her master, a demigod posing as a bartender, to weed out unfaithful men. Depending on the choices the player makes, the game has 9 different possible endings (including a secret one that’s ultra-tough to reach). If all goes well, the player can choose to marry Katherine or Catherine, the latter of which promises a supernaturally sexy life in the underworld.
Cosplayer IscariotElian put together an an amazing cosplay and supportive team of MUA, assistant, and photographer to celebrate what she deems as the bad ending of Catherine – the one where Vincent descends to the underworld as Catherine’s husband and seduces a full harem of succubi. What’s so bad about that, you ask? It depends on your moral fiber. As corrupt as that ending may be, this cosplay is absolutely wonderful and stunningly sexy. It’s dark, captivating, an expertly crafted and modeled. The wig, the horns, the body suit, everything about this is so amazingly done. It’s awesome to see the dark aspect of Catherine done in such a gorgeous light.
