“American Horror Story: Coven” Announced: Will Film In New Orleans [VIDEO]

The speculation about what the next season of  “American Horror Story” will be called is now officially over.

Today at PaleyFest, AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that the new season will be titled “American Horror Story: Coven”. That’s right, witches! The panel also included Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Naomi Grossman, and executive producers Brad Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto and Tim Minear. It had already been announced that Bates and “American Horror Story” alumni Taissa Farmiga, Paulson, Lange, Peters, Rabe and Conroy would be a part of the third season.

“It’s a really cool story that we’ve been talking about for a couple of years, and this seemed like the year to do it,” Murphy said. He also confirmed that the season would shoot (at least part-time) in New Orleans, and that the third season would take the production to “a lot of really cool real locations,” and be less of a “sound-stagey show”. The show’s writers have reportedly been researching America’s most haunted locations.

Murphy explained why he chose to cast Kathy Bates: “I love a good Oscar winner. I have loved Kathy Bates from the first time I saw her on stage.” Bates and Lange are real-life friends, so Murphy called her up to pitch the role. Murphy promised that there will be “a lot of scenes of Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it.”

Many “American Horror Story” fans had speculated that witchcraft would be involved in Season 3 after Murphy announced that there was a hint about the upcoming season in the “American Horror Story: Asylum” episode titled “The Name Game.” During this episode, the asylum jukebox played Screamin Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell On You”.
