All First Party Microsoft Games Will Run Natively At 4K On Project Scorpio

Now that Sony has shown off the PlayStation Pro, all eyes are now on Microsoft to see what their new Scorpio console can do. While we don’t know have anything solid yet, according to Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager Shannon Loftis, any game developed in house by Microsoft will run at 4K natively on the Project Scorpio.

“Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K,” Loftis said in a recent interview with USA Today. This only applies to first party Microsoft games, such as the Gears of War series, Forza, and Halo to name a few, and there’s no word on whether third party games will run natively at 4K either. This is also in contrast to the PlayStation Pro; while it will support 4K, not every game will support it, and those that do will be a combination of native 4K and upscaled graphics.

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, as we haven’t had a chance to see the console since it was first announced. Originally announced at this year’s E3, the Scorpio (not the final name) will release sometime in 2017.
